Research In Motion is dead?

Friday, March 30th, 2012

I gave a presentation yesterday and in that I talked about how RIM, Apple and Android phones carried their market share, and then Rim released their financials and just like that, the outlook has changed!

I found this article on BGR this morning that sheds alot of light on how complicated the Smartphone market place is. I made a prediction that Windows was the company to come in and take on Apple. I don’t think android can truly do it, as they just aren’t in everyone’s homes like apple is right now. The article has some comments from a former Rim employee and one of the things he/she thinks rim should do is actually partner with Microsoft. Interesting, I had never thought of that, but I think it could work to be honest. Apple has ALOT of momentum and if someone is going to knock them down a peg you had better do a damn good job!

Rattled by Google’s Motorola buy, Samsung rumored to license BlackBerry 10

Friday, March 16th, 2012

I’ve long been predicting that RIM was going to get bought out, or *something* was going to happen. Well some pretty solid rumors are starting to fly.

To set the stage a few things have happened. Google bought motorola. The other major brand using android software for phones is for the most part Samsung. Obviously a huge company, they have a concern that google could close their os and become a competitor to samsung. Hmmmmm. What to do? I wonder who has an awesome OS that we could partner with and keep making money. (more…)

Rogers vs Bell vs Telus: Which 4G LTE new iPad should you get?

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

iMore.com put together a great article discussing which data plan is best for Canadians. Sasktel Mobility isn’t included in this simply because they don’t even offer the options mentioned. This isn’t really a big deal because Bell and Telus both utilize Sasktels network in Saskatchewan, so if you are bothered by Sasktels goofy rule about only using 200mb of data outside Saskatchewan, this article and Sasktel are making your life easy. Switch your iPad 1/2/3 to Telus and enjoy!

Steve Jobs used patents to pressure Bill Gates into 1997 investment in Apple.

Friday, March 2nd, 2012

Apple co-founder Steve Jobs was no stranger to legal battles involving the patent system. Apple is currently waging war on a number of Android vendors and the company’s former CEO vowed to crush Google’s mobile platform before his untimely passing last year. ”I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple’s $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong,” Jobs said, according to Walter Isaacson’s biography of the Apple boss. “I’m going to destroy Android, because it’s a stolen product. I’m willing to go thermonuclear war on this.” But more than a decade before the iPhone even existed, Apple was locked in patent battles with Microsoft that would end up saving the company from the brink of bankruptcy. Read on for more. (more…)
