Definition of Missing the boat -> RIM.

I’ve been an avid Blackberry user for quite a while, and i’ve recently become.. I hate to say it. An Apple fan. Before some people take that too far, i’m a fan of IOS devices. I still hate Mac OS. But that’s a different story.

Rim just announced that they are going to be launching two new tablets this year. another 7″ model, and a 10″ model. This frustrates me greatly.

Rim from day one has really had a superior tablet in terms of hardware. But the basically useless software limited them from becoming the leader they thought they could be. I love the navigation, I love the cameras, but with no apps, it’s a paper weight.

We’re still waiting for OS 2.0 to come out for the existing tablet, so why launch another tablet?

In comparison, Apple is rumored, to be launching their ipad3 in early march, and possibly an ipad 4 towards Christmas, right around when the iphone 5 will come out as well.

Hopefully some restructure comes down the pipe internally, these just seem like some really bad decisions being made with no clear path, constantly missing deadlines and generally letting their customer base down.

If Rim can make it another 2 years i’ll be very surprised, they are literally missing the boat, and I think this is their last shot at the market. Hopefully they can get it right!

  • I love Blackberry, I don’t care how those Apple-elites brainwashed you ;) . But seriously, ANOTHER tablet?!? I don’t get quoted in Harvard Business Review (Yet) but I’m pretty sure tablet’s are way outside of Blackberry’s core competency. Which is building phones for business people. Seems to me they’re playing the copycat game and nothing amazing was ever created copying what the competition is doing(talk to Bing).

The bright side is that there was a board shake up the other week so maybe they’ll knock some sense into the business strategy arm of RIM because this is just ludicrous that they’re investing in tablets, for the second time!

Thanks for the this story, the mobile battle is just beginning.

used some of everyone’s tech…all has its place. Having 100,000 apps from Apple (tried some) is fascinating but useless. How many can I actually use? Don’t have time to use the ones I have now but then I’m more interested in function than amusement. Have a Blackberry Playbook and find it very functional for my business work, and has enough apps to keep me amused.

RIM definately missing the boat. they have created a big black whole for themselves to fall into. I like Blackberrys, but they just have not pushed the boundaries like other manufacturers.

just noticed Samsung is not interested in RIM ;)
