Motorola Xoom Review Part 1

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

Motorola XOOM 6110224011415 Motorola Xoom Review Part 1You may have noticed this is labeled as part 1, the reason for this is this is purly a 3rd party review from BGR so we can’t take any credit for this review unfortunately! However it’s such a well written review we wanted to share it with everyone until we can get our hands on our own Xoom to do an independent review. We had only planned to look at the playbook and ipad2, however Motorola and Google may have a real winner here!

Enjoy the article.

blackberry playbook simulator Want to get a sneak peak at the Blackberry Playbook?

You can’t hold it, or touch it, but today RIM has released an updated version of the BlackBerry Tablet OS simulator (for the BlackBerry PlayBook) that now includes support for the BlackBerry browser. This was lacking in the previous version, but now developers can test their web and Flash applications using the browser. Some notes for developers:

The new version is available now and can be downloaded from the link below. Check out the Inside BlackBerry Developers Blog for more.

What did you do with Voip this week?

Monday, February 7th, 2011

I recently went on a trip to mexico, I was meeting my parents down there and we had made plans to communicate via blackberry messenger. My parents went for 2 weeks, so plan was for my dad to take his blackberry tour and away he would go. I checked with sasktel and some websites, everything checked out cdma aka 1XEV should work just fine. Wrong. He had no data coverage at all, but could text message. I did know for a fact that 3G coverage worked, and fortunately his BB Tour is world capable, you just need a sim card.

So down to my favorite sasktel dealer I go. I request a card for my wife’s tour and my dads. They of course need to speak to my wife and verify it’s her so that they can activate it etc. Now in the case of my dad, he’s in mexico, and with no laptop. I talked them into selling me the card, and paid all the fees for it, but we would have to call in and activate it. The gentleman at sasktel was baffled at the fact I was going to call from Mexico and how much it would cost.

I started to explain how our voip phone systems work. We simply use our laptop, and whats called a “Softphone” because it’s just a program or software on the computer, to connect to the phone system. You use the mic and speakers on the laptop and poof! Like magic you have a phone.

Thinking this would be like some kind of an ultimate test, we all got together in our hotel room, and called 1-800-sasktel to activate this sim card. When the lady answered, I told her, I’m calling over voip from Mexico, so I may sound funny or cut out.

She laughed.

I said whats so funny?

Sir, if you hadn’t told me, I would have never know you weren’t sitting beside me. You are crystal clear.

Sweet! it works. I mean. If course it works. why shouldn’t it? but truthfully, we’re I wasn’t 100% sure how well the internet from our hotel would work, but it went off without a hitch.

I was able to read the complicated and long list of numbers to activate the sim card, we were successful in activating my dads phone, and we were able to organize ourselves for the rest of our vacation.

VOIP is an amazing piece of technology, every company moving forward should ensure that if they are looking at a new phone system, that they are capable of running technology like this. It’s truly where the world is going!
